Importing existing translations into langify can be beneficial for several reasons. To simply restore a former version or to add new translations from an external source.
Please check out our ‘Export your translations’ guide for additional information.
Generally, three different options are available to import content to langify.
- PO/MO (.mo)
- CSV (.csv)
- Advanced CSV (.csv)
Hint: Externally created CSV files need to be converted into the langify CSV structure in order to be imported successfully.
It is recommended to use a CSV/PO file exported directly from langify.
Each import option has certain characteristics, benefits and requirements, as mentioned below.
To import a file, simply click on the three dots in the top right and choose the file you want to import.

PO/MO format
This option has the advantage of being easy to handle - It does however need an additional software to open and edit the file. You can download a free version here.
- open the PO file with the POEditor
- create the MO file by saving it
- import it in the top right menu
Note that the PO file is for human editing, and the MO file is for machines to read. The MO file is the one that needs to be imported to langify.
CSV format
It is necessary to keep the given structure with two columns, "source" and "target". The original content is in the "source" column, and the translations are in the "target" column.
During the import, translations will be applied to all texts that match the "source" field.
Column names: source, target
Advanced CSV format
With our advanced .csv export you can export/import a CSV file with the additional columns Shopify ID and Type.
Note, that this format is currently only available for the product export.
Column names: id, type, source, target
Please make sure that the columns in the CSV file match the above mentioned columns. Otherwise langify will not be able to read and import the file.
